Have you ever thought what it might be like to actually pray at Calvary, celebrate Mass in the Tomb where Jesus rose from the dead, or visit Peter's house in Capernaum? Praying the psalms, studying the scriptures, and visiting sacred places take on a remarkable experiential depth of meaning when you are in the land where Jesus lived and ministered -- Jerusalem and the Holy Land. Father Gregory Tatum, O.P., returns to Aquinas College to speak of his first-hand experience -- and the profound joys -- of living where Jesus lived and preached.
A native of Oklahoma City, Okla., Father Gregory Tatum, O.P., professed vows with the Order of Preachers of the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus (Oakland, Calif.) in 1981 and was ordained a priest in 1989. In 1992, Father received his licentiate in Sacred Scripture (S.S.L.) from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. Since earning his Ph.D. in New Testament and Christian Origins from Duke University in 1997, Father has taught in institutions around the world, including the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, Calif.; the School of Pastoral Leadership in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, Calif.; the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C.; and the Ecole Biblique et Archeologique Francaise (EBAF) in Jerusalem, where he continues to serve on the faculty. Father has also written a number of scholarly articles and reviews and is the author of two books, New Chapters in a Life of Paul: The Sequence of His Career and Redefining First-Century Jewish and Christian Identities: Essays in Honor of E. P. Sanders. In addition to teaching, preaching, and writing, Father also serves on the Editorial Board of La Bible en ses Traditions, a publication of the EBAF.
