Dr. Paul Thigpen

On the Road to Damascus: A Contemporary Conversion Story

In this Year of St. Paul, the Church celebrates the life and ministry of the Apostle who could well be called the most famous of Christian converts. In this lecture, Dr. Paul Thigpen will recall his own “double” conversion: first as an atheist who became a Christian, and later as an evangelical Protestant pastor who entered the Catholic Church. His insights from Scripture and personal experience will shed light on the life of St. Paul, the nature of evangelization, and the mystery of conversion.

Dr. Paul Thigpen is a Professor of Theology at Southern Catholic College in Dawsonville, Georgia. He also serves as editor of The Catholic Answer, a national bimonthly magazine that answers questions about the Catholic faith.

Dr. Thigpen earned a B.A. in Religious Studies from Yale University (1977) and an M.A. (1993) and Ph.D. (1995) in Historical Theology from Emory University, where he was awarded the George W. Woodruff Fellowship. He has served on the faculties of Missouri State University (Springfield), The College of Saint Thomas More (Fort Worth, Texas), and Saint Leo University (Savannah, Georgia).

A best-selling author and award-winning journalist, Dr. Thigpen has published thirty-five books and more than five hundred journal and magazine articles in more than forty religious and secular periodicals for both scholarly and popular audiences. His work has been circulated worldwide and translated into twelve languages.

Dr. Thigpen was recently appointed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops as a lay representative on their National Advisory Council. He also serves the Church as an historian, apologist, evangelist, and catechist in a number of settings, speaking frequently at conferences, seminars, parish missions, and scholarly gatherings in the United States and abroad.

All lectures begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.

Meet Dr. Thigpen at a pre-lecture reception at 5:30 p.m. in the White House.

Sister Mary Dominic, O.P., Ph.D. and

Sister Mary Michael, O.P.

Praying with the Church: An Introduction to the Liturgy of the Hours

In this lecture, Sister Mary Dominic and Sister Mary Michael share their considerable knowledge of (and love for!) Biblical languages and Scripture as they apply to the "official prayer" of the Church.

Sister Mary Dominic earned her doctorate in linguistics from the University of Michigan after completing graduate studies abroad at Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Prior to discerning a vocation to religious life that led her to the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia Congregation in 1987, Sister taught linguistics at Auburn University and briefly worked as the producer of the "Mother Angelica Live" television program on Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). Sister subsequently earned a M.S. in Biblical Studies from Providence College in Rhode Island and currently teaches courses in composition, literature, linguistics, Scripture, and Catholic doctrine at Aquinas College. She has also published a number of scholarly articles on linguistics and Scripture.

Sister Mary Michael, the newest member of the Aquinas College Catechetical Formation Program team, has been a member of the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia Congregation for 20 years. She has extensive teaching experience at all grade levels and has directed numerous retreats for middle- and high-school students as well as several vocation retreats for young adults. Sister received her B.S. in Education from Belmont University; an M.S. in Education Administration from Northwestern University in Louisiana; and an M.A. in Theology with a Specialization in Catechetics from Franciscan University, Steubenville, Ohio.
